Space utilization

Within the spaces of theIstituto degli Innocenti there are halls and courtyards that lend themselves to the organization of conferences, conventions, gala dinners, performances, training meetings, exhibitions and displays of national and international importance. Spaces that can be used for temporary events are set in a unified context of purposes, where each activity is carried out in accordance with the mission of the Institution. Revenues from external initiatives support the charitable activities of theIstituto degli Innocenti.

The Institute, in continuity with its inspiration, promotes the active rights of children and adolescents as enunciated by the Convention on the Rights of the Child, adopted in New York on November 20, 1989, through a multiplicity of socio-educational activities, study and research on the condition of childhood, training of adults of reference for children and adolescents, and promotion of the culture of integration and coexistence in respect of human rights.

After restoration and redevelopment in 2016, which affected a large part of the building, a portion of the structure has become a venue for events in the center of Florence.

Cortile degli uomini

The Cortile degli Uomini, together with the large loggia on the façade, has always represented the heart of the Innocenti complex.

Brunelleschi's design called for a single large square room behind the Loggiato, flanked by the Church and the Abituro dei fanciulli.
The artistic and historical value of this space makes it exclusive and reserved for very few special events; in fact, the space is available only by specific concession from theIstituto degli Innocenti.
