From my perspective
The exhibition, with free admission, features 66 black-and-white photographs taken by 22 boys and girls between the ages of 15 and 17 who were detained in the juvenile penal institutions of Catanzaro, Quartucciu (Cagliari), Rome, Turin and the women's institute of Pontremoli (Massa Carrara).
The images are the result of photography workshops promoted by the Child and Adolescent Authority in collaboration with theIstituto degli Innocenti, conducted by photographer Valerio Bispuri between August and December 2024. The exhibition is organized around three major themes: 'How the everyday has changed,' 'Who or what my thoughts go to when I am in the institute,' and 'What are my dreams.' For the children involved, the project provided an opportunity for expression and awareness, allowing them to tell their stories through images and reflect on their own futures. For the Supervisory Authority, on the other hand, it was a way to listen to them and better understand their experiences.
An exhibition panel, created by Bispuri himself, tells the behind-the-scenes story of this creative journey. In addition, the 66 photographs will be collected in a publication, which will be presented in Florence on March 6, 2025. A unique opportunity for the public to immerse themselves in the reality of these young people, observing the world from their perspective.
