Work begins to expand the Museum’s path

contatti Museo degli Innocenti

The Museo degli Innocenti will be enriched with new spaces and a new layout, thanks to the renovation works of the Galleria degli Affreschi that began a few months ago.

The renovation will reconnect the Galleria to the existing museum path, serving as an ideal continuation and culmination: the goal is to enhance these precious spaces of the monumental complex – home since 1971 to a significant collection of detached frescoes, entrusted to the Istituto degli Innocenti by the Florentine Galleries (now the Uffizi Galleries) – promoting the enjoyment of the artworks within them, including for people with disabilities.

The new layout will offer renewed visibility to the works housed in the Galleria, outlining a historical, artistic, and geographical itinerary of the city of Florence that is accessible to everyone.

The tour will include the Galleria with its frescoes, the two rooms of the Prior designated for cultural activities or small temporary exhibitions, and the Chapel overlooking the Church, which can host monographic focuses or other in-depth activities.

The project was conceived and developed by the Archive, Museum and Cultural Activities Service together with the Heritage, Infrastructure and Technical Services of the Institute, and has been funded as part of the PNRR (National Recovery and Resilience Plan) call for proposals from the Ministry of Culture, M1C3-3 – Investment 1.2. Removal of physical and cognitive barriers in museums, libraries, and archives.

Currently, the School of Specialization in Historical and Artistic Heritage of the University of Florence is also collaborating on the project.
